Solar Power Companies, Manufacturers, Mining Companies and Scientists: Who is Lying to Us and Why?

In the emissions trading scheme (ETS) legislations currently being debated and bulldozed through our respective parliaments around the world, who is telling us true facts and who is lying to their people?

This ETS will bring with it a huge climate change levy that our grandkids grandkids will have to repay.

Let's examine some of the vested interests first and I don't presume to even know a fraction of them. But I do know that the solar power companies obviously will be the big winners out of this debate one way or another. And I 'm not inferring this to be a bad thing at all simply because they will be doing everyone good by saving us all some money on extraordinarily high energy costs.

Our power bills here in Australia have risen enormously over the past two years and will keep on rising every year or twice yearly for the foreseeable future. So the solar power companies will be doing us all a lot of good if we were to get at least a percentage of our energy needs from installing solar power systems to our homes, offices, schools and Government buildings. This is a win-win situation for everyone.

Manufacturers, particularly the larger manufacturers who are big pollution emitters will be required to spend money on cleaning up their own pollution and lowering their emissions into the atmosphere. Here in Australia, they have lobbied for some very high financial assistance from the federal Government through the federal opposition and in order for the legislation to pass for our Prime Minister to go off to Copenhagen in December 2009 it has been negotiated and agreed. So the Australian taxpayer will be footing a large percentage of their clean-up costs.

Personally, this annoys me. We, the tax payers, put in "x" amount of dollars for them to make some huge profits from to pay to their shareholders while they pay large bills to Accounting firms for some "creative accounting" so they can minimise their tax responsibilities.

Coal Mining Companies in particular have a lot of revenue to lose unless a 'clean coal' technology can be found that is workable and financially viable. So far, there have been a couple of methods being trialed. One is carbon sequestration where they pump the carbon dioxide back into the ground to fill up where the coal came from. This seems to have received the most R&D financial assistance to various companies around the world but it has a lot of problems everywhere and to date no one in any country has yet built a working solution.

Another system being trialed here in Queensland is extracting the gas from the coal and so far this seems to be close to being a workable method but as yet it still has a lot of Research and Development to undergo. There are other clean coal technologies being investigated but no one in any country has yet developed a viable clean coal technology. Needless to say, the Company in whichever country succeeds first stands to make Billions of Dollars from the technology.

Now I can hear you asking why would Scientists lie to us, the people? Once again the reason for this is financially based. Most Australian Science projects, Research and developments are Government funded.

For a lot of reasons, Australian businesses are loath to spend their own money on science projects and technological developments. So many of our world renowned scientific breakthroughs have come from Government funded projects and from our Universities. C.S.I.R.O is Australia's leading science organization and the scientists there are Commonwealth Employees. I know because I was employed by CSIRO on Kakadu National Park before it was listed as a world heritage wetlands area and before Nabarlek Uranium Mine was developed at Jabiru which is in Kakadu National Park.  

So whoever is lying to us and why, remains shrouded with doubt and distrust. If you are to believe Lord Monckton who was once Margaret Thatchers advisor then we are all in very, very deep doo-doo. Only time will show us the truth and by then it will either be too late or we will have spent many Billions of dollars unnecessarily to make a few companies or individuals very, very wealthy.

But then again, we might just have saved the Planet and Humanity from extinction. That's why we need to know who is telling the truth and what the truth actually is. I can honestly say all our lives depend on it.
